PILOT RESOURCE GUIDE

COMMERCIAL PILOT - SINGLE ENGINE LAND

The Commercial Pilot Single Engine Land course is for those students who require commercial pilot privileges in single engine aircraft only. The Commercial Certificate will allow a pilot to have a career in aviation as a pilot.  The Commercial pilot may receive compensation for hire.  The Commercial pilot may be employed by a company but cannot hold out and act as a private charter pilot - advertising on his/her own.

Course Objectives:
The Student will obtain the knowledge, skill, and aeronautical experience necessary to meet the requirements of the FAA Commercial Pilot PTS with an airplane category rating and a single-engine land

Ground Training Includes:
Preflight preparation and procedures; complex aircraft procedures; complex aircraft systems; advanced aerodynamics principles; airplane performance limitations; federal aviation regulations; stall/spin awareness; aeronautical charts and publications; radio aids to VFR navigation; meteorology and weather data services; national airspace systems; radio communications; air traffic control; aero medical factors; commercial operations; passenger and freight loading; night maneuvers; and ground   operations.

Flight Training Includes:
Preflight procedures; airport operations; maximum performance take offs and landings; maximum performance flight maneuvers; navigation and cross country flying; slow flight and stalls; complex aircraft operation; commercial flight maneuvers; emergency procedures; night operations; post flight briefing.

Requirements:
A student may train under Part 61 or Part 141 rules depending how many flight hours they have.   After the student has obtained their Private Pilot’s License, typically, they will obtain their Instrument Rating.    Why?  There are very few Commercial pilots that do not fly in reduced visibility and sky conditions by the reference to flight instruments.   An example of a Commercial Pilot who would not need an Instrument Rating would be a pilot who flew as a tour guide pilot.  Of course you would want to see the aerial scenery with beautiful weather.  Students may also train under our fast track program and earn their commercial license in 120 days or less!

American Winds has a FAA approved 120 hour Initial Commercial training course.  This means if a Student completes their Private in 40 hours + 120 hours = Commercial License.  Student training under Part 61 must have at least 250 hours before getting their Commercial Certificate.

PART 141 -  REQUIREMENTS:

·      Meet FAR Part 141 Appendix C (3) & (4)

·      Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language

·      Pass an FAA Instrument Rating Knowledge Written Exam (60 multiple choice questions)

    • 3 hours by CFII for Checkride prep within 60 days.
    • 250 NM Dual IFR Cross Country, one leg consisting of a straight-line distance of 100 NM, Instrument approach at each airport, and 3 different kinds of approaches with the use of navigation systems

PART 61 -  INITIAL REQUIREMENTS:

·      Hold at least a current private pilot certificate with an Helicopter category

·      Meet FAR Part 61.65 requirements

·      Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language

·      No FAA Instrument Rating Knowledge Written Exam required

·      Have at least 120 total flight hours (TT)

    • 50 hours Cross Country as PIC.  10 hours in an Airplane
    • 40 hours of Actual or Simulated instrument time
    • 15 hours by authorized CFII
    • 3 hours by CFII -  Checkride prep within 60 days
    • 250 NM Dual IFR Cross Country, Instrument approach at each airport, and 3 different kinds of approaches with the use of navigation systems.

Applicant will receive a minimum of 120 hours of flight training in various aircraft and a minimum of 45 hours of one-on-one ground training. 10 hours must be completed in a complex airplane where students will gain proficiency in retractable landing gear, flaps, and a controlled pitch propeller.

FAST TRACK TRAINING PROGRAM
D
ue to the high demand by the airlines and corporate charter for pilots, American Winds has taken our proven training program and adapted to a FAST TRACK program.

Don’t be fooled by National flight school chains who have paid recruiters trying to lure in Students by phony sales pitches.  “Get a Private license in 2 weeks or a Commercial license in 90 days.”   Students graduating from these flight schools spend their days flying with little or no ground training by the flight school or flight instructor.   Flight hours without quality ground training and academic studying is a complete waste of money!!!  Students must do their homework and demand a high quality flight training program for their money.  Students should expect their flight school of choice to have an excellent reputation in the aviation community.  Most importantly, Student should know with confidence that their aviation education will get them a quality job.

American Winds trains our FAST TRACK students with EVERY intention of one day hiring them as a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI).  We have hired 99.9% of our CFI Students.   We have a 100% pass rate with 7 FAA Designated Flight Examiners (DPE).  American Winds has made national new and aviation history.   Our reputation for quality, leadership and customer service precedes us.

Students will use our quality flight syllabi to track their training progress.  Students will also use our FAA inspected airplanes with our standardized flight instructors.   All of this will be under the guidance of our Chief Flight Instructor.

*  Be proud of your flight training!  *
*   Be proud of training at American Winds! *
* We are Proud of our FAST TRACK and PROUD of YOU! *

Cost

Although it is impossible to predict the exact cost of flight training, an approximate cost table is listed here. This table is for Part 141 students and includes only the minimum flight training requirements. Most students take a little longer then just the minimum requirements.
