INSTRUMENT RATING CERTIFICATION COURSE

An Instrument Rating Certification will enable use of IFR navigation and approaches by use of navigation systems, maintain flight by reference to instruments, understand and become proficient in the use of navigation systems, how to procure and use aviation weather reports and forecasts, and maintain good crew resource management, including communication and coordination. Students will enhance their skills as private pilots by gaining more training and become proficient in handling the aircraft by sole reference to the instruments. An Instrument Rating is added to a Private or Commercial Certificate.

Course Objectives:
The Instrument Rating course is designed to prepare the student to operate safely in the ATC system with sole reference to the instruments.  The student will obtain all the knowledge, skill, and aeronautical experience necessary to meet the requirements of the FAA Practical Test Standards.

Ground Training Includes:
Aerodynamics and the principles of flight; human factors, attitude Instrument flying, instrument FAR’s, airports, airspace, flight information, ATC systems and clearances, departure, enroute, and arrival procedures, holding procedures, precision and non precision approaches, weather factors/hazards, printed reports/forecasts, graphic weather products, sources of weather information, IFR emergencies.

Flight Training Includes:
Use of IFR navigation and approaches by use of navigational systems; how to procure and use aviation weather reports and forecasts; maintain good crew resource management including communication and coordination.

Requirements:
A student may train under Part 61 or Part 141 rules depending how many flight hours they have.   If a student has just completed their Private Pilots License, typically, they will obtain their Instrument under Part 141.  Why?  American Winds has a FAA approved 37 hour training course.  This means if a student completes their Private in 40 hours + 37 hours = Instrument Rating.  Student training under Part 61 must have at least 120 hours before getting their Instrument Rating. Students may also choose to train under our fast track program. Students can obtain their instrument rating in 30 days or less!

PART 141 -  REQUIREMENTS:

    • 250 NM Dual IFR Cross Country, Instrument approach at each airport, and 3 different kinds of approaches with the use of navigation systems

FAST TRACK TRAINING PROGRAM
Due to the high demand by the airlines and corporate charter for pilots, American Winds has taken our proven training program and adapted to a FAST TRACK program.

Don’t be fooled by National flight school chains that have paid recruiters trying to lure in Students by phony sales pitches.  “Get a Private license in 2 weeks or a Commercial license in 90 days.”   Students graduating from these flight schools spend their days flying with little or no ground training by the flight school or flight instructor.   Flight hours without quality ground training and academic studying is a complete waste of money!!!  Students must do their homework and demand a high quality flight training program for their money.  Students should expect their flight school of choice to have an excellent reputation in the aviation community.  Most importantly, Student should know with confidence that their aviation education will get them a quality job.

American Winds trains our FAST TRACK students with EVERY intention of one day hiring them as a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI).  We have hired 99.9% of our CFI Students.   We have a 100% pass rate with 7 FAA Designated Flight Examiners (DPE).  American Winds has made national new and aviation history.   Our reputation for quality, leadership and customer service precedes us.

Students will use our quality flight syllabi to track their training progress.  Students will also use our FAA inspected airplanes with our standardized flight instructors.   All of this will be under the guidance of our Chief Flight Instructor.

Cost
Although it is impossible to predict the exact cost of flight training, an approximate cost table is listed here. This table is for Part 141 students and includes only the minimum flight training requirements. Most students take a little longer then just the minimum requirements. Students who choose a Part 61 Instrument Rating Course will need an additional 50 hours of cross country PIC time.
