| TAKE OFF WITH A DISCOVERY FLIGHT |
Take a Discovery Flight! You can experience the exhilaration and excitement of piloting an airplane over the beautiful terrain of the Northeast Ohio just for fun or as a present to a family member or friend. Or this could be your first step in becoming a weekend warrior or a career pilot.
The person taking the discovery flights will get a chance to take the controls under the watchful guidance of a FAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). Your introductory flight will be approxiately 30 minutes. Prior to taking your flight, your instructor will walk you through preflighting the aircraft to gain a basic understanding of what pilots do before their flight to insure that the aircraft is in airworthy condition. You'll check the flight controls including the ailerons, flaps, elevator, and rudder; check the lights; test the fuel and check the quantity; check the oil in the engine; and look for any signs of damage to the structure of the aircraft. After a quality preflight, it is time to go flying. On your discovery flight, you will sit left seat (pilot-in-command seat) as you soar through the sky. In controlling the aircraft, you will turn the aircraft, climb, and descend. If you live close by, every effort will be made to fly over your house. If not, other locations are near by that can be flown over such as the University of Akron University, Kent State University, and Akron Canton Airport.
Discovery flights are given in three airplanes: Cessna 150, Cessna 172, and Piper Warrior. The Cessna 150 discovery flight costs $69.00 for 30 minutes and is for one person plus the pilot. A discovery flight in the Cessna 172 and Piper Warrior costs $99.00 for 30 minutes and the experience can be shared by two people (due to weight and height limitations, it may be necessary to take the larger Cessna 172 or Piper Warrior).
Schedule a discovery flight or intro flight by calling (330) 733-2500 or by visiting American Winds Flight Academy. Don't forget to bring your camera and wear comfortable clothes to enter and exit the airplane!
